Reisverslag Week 6
12 maart 2016
On Tuesday it was Saint Felix day, an important day for the school. In the morning there was a special chapel service... but I missed it...
I'm so used to having my Tuesday mornings off, that I completely forgot about the chapel service at 8:45 am.... I woke up at 8:30 thinking:"Have I forgotten something?" Turns out I did...
I felt pretty stupid about that, but oh well, what can we do about it?
In the afternoon there was an obsticle course that the pupils had to do. Per year group they had to compete to each other.
At some places in the course there were teachers and gappies trying to stop them. One teacher was wearing a Thor costume and was trying to whack pupils with a foam bat. One of the gap boys had one as well, he was pretty savage.
It was funny to see pupils that I teach get whacked around the head. I think we should have more days like that in the Netherlands as well. It really makes teaching worth while.
Every evening the boarders have to do their homework for one and a half hours and I've been sitting in on that for three nights this week. I found that I can work much more concentrated when I do that. I think I'll do it again next week, but then four times per week.
On Thursday I had my second piano lesson. I'm really enjoying it as an activity next to all the teaching. I'll probably have to get a keyboard when I get back home or something.
I've got one full class (which is 10 pupils here) on Friday now. During that lesson the teacher who usually teaches them observes me. I'm quite glad that she's letting me do this. I'm trying to really practise my pedagogical skills with them, and teaching them also helps me get used to using only English in a class. I hope that I'll be able to implement that when I get back to the Netherlands.
Today I've been for a lovely walk through Southwold with Gracie, one of the girls living in my house. We went to a church in town that I'd actually never been in before. I'm a big fan of church arcitecture and art, so that was lovely to see. We also walked down to the pier, but it was quite foggy over the sea, so you couldn't see very far.
Tomorrow we're going on a trip to London with the boarders. I'll be going on the London Eye for the first time (something I'm terrified about), and I'm going to Covent Garden. Should be good fun.

Good, you're teaching classes now. Lovely photos of the church. The obstacle course sounds like a good idea indeed, we'll have one at Windesheim next.
